China: Blogger kills himself

I wrote this comment several days ago, but it still has not appeared, so I will write it again.
I’m thankful for the mention, but I am not, and have never been, Shawn Matthews’s friend. Based on my reading of his online persona, I thought he was a kind and funny guy, as well as a good writer, but he and I never met face-to-face, and exchanged only an email or two. I’m saddened by Shawn’s death, but it cheapens the word “friendship” when concept is misapplied to people who never knew him personally.
