Keep the Global Voices newsroom open! We only need $60,000 to meet our newsroom budget for the year.
As you may know, Global Voices is a non-profit, without any ad, subscription, or paywall revenue. We exist thanks to grants from our amazing donors, including the MacArthur Foundation and the Kellogg Foundation, and thanks to donations from readers like you.
The global cuts in non-profit funding, particularly around media and digital rights, and the increasing costs of working in the digital sphere have hit independent news organizations like Global Voices hard. The decreased availability of grants has meant that, even with the support of our donors, we have had to cut staff hours and therefore reduce the number of articles we can offer. Even so the newsroom is struggling to meet its 2026 budget.
You can help! We only need $60,000 to meet our newsroom budget for the year. If we can double that we will be able to bring our staff of around 25 people around the world back up to previous hours for at least part of the year.
Help us keep running — and do more. Your donations will help us pay our staff and cover unavoidable operating costs like servers. Without your donations, we're at risk of needing to shrink our newsroom even more in the next year or two, which would mean fewer stories, articles, and essays on topics that don’t get enough coverage elsewhere, from voices you probably wouldn't hear from otherwise. We need to protect independent media now, because it’s a lot harder to rebuild networks of experienced staff than it is to keep them on.
