Most of our translators work with us on Lingua, which translates Global Voices stories into more than 40 languages.

Our fields of specialization

Clients and partners

Our current clients and partners include WITNESS, Media Legal Defence Initiative, the Web We Want, Web FoundationRefugees United, MIT Media Lab, the Committee to Protect Journalists and the International Press Institute. We’ve translated everything from subtitles for human rights videos, to advocacy campaigns, to legal material supporting the defense of journalists and activists under threat.

Our principles

We focus on “fair trade” principles in the design of our contracts. We pay our translators a competitive rate and keep our administrative costs to a minimum. We focus on serving a sector with a particular set of translation needs related to the core mission of Global Voices.

In addition to helping you by providing excellent translations for your organization, offering translation services helps our community of translators to thrive, providing them with work opportunities and contributing to the accumulated body of information in our field in several different languages.

Testimonials from some current partners:

“It is a pleasure to partner with Global Voices, whose translations services have been critical to ensuring that our global work in defense of freedom of expression and the press reaches as wide an audience as possible. Global Voices is a highly professional organization; its translators are fast and work to high standards. It makes our job so much easier to know that our texts are in good and like-minded hands and to not have to worry about the quality of the translations we receive.”
— Scott Griffen, International Press Institute

“It is a pleasure to work with Global Voices! They are efficient, thorough and produce a high-quality work product for an affordable rate. We have been very happy with their work and often recommend them to others who are looking for translation services.
 — Sarah Kerr, WITNESS

“Global Voices has helped us reach and communicate with people living in areas affected by conflict, war, and natural disaster. Thanks to their efforts, we've been able to engage with communities in refugee camps, urban slums and conflict zones. Cultural sensitivity is key when dealing with different religions, cultures, and nationalities. Thanks for their translation efforts and understanding of different cultures, our mobile app and platform are now available in seven languages, and they have helped us become even better at communicating with people who are offline and off the grid. Their passion for social good, coupled with their expertise in languages and cultures, is a perfect fit for REFUNITE”.
 — Ida Jeng, Refugees United
