Lebanese Tweeps and bloggers are congratulating themselves for the abolition of reduced sentence on crimes of honor on August 4th, 2011. Roy Tohme, tweets: ” Finally, we're catching up with humanity” while Tarekhs can't help but wonder why did a certain parliamentary bloc oppose the ban and says: ”Good Thing it passed”.

Congratulations for Lebanon. =)
Continued followup such as Nadine Moawad’s blogpiece “Lebanon Deletes ‘Honor’ Crime Article from Penal Code” http://www.nadinemoawad.com/2011/08/lebanon-deletes-honor-crime-article-from-penal-code/ is vital for understanding as best as possible what is going on incrementally in Lebanese Parliament thinking on this matter. For instance, she says that Article 252 that allows for reduced sentences for crimes committed in a state of rage is still in effect citing Saada Allaw from AsSafi http://www.assafir.com/Article.aspx?ArticleId=1829&EditionId=1849&ChannelId=43528 (in Arabic)
Looking at this closely, loopholes continue to exist in the Lebanese penal code as they do in the Jordanian penal code in spite of apparent changes (also lately commended but prematurely). Interested readers should see this blog piece dated August 3 and titled “AFP article on PalArab ‘honor killings’ not as positive as it seems” at http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2011/08/afp-article-on-palarab-honor-killings.html
Thanks a lot :) We promise to have a more elaborated article on this issue for it certainly deserves highlight
