Zimbabwe: What is the real inflation figure?

Zimbabaloola puts inflation figures in Zimbabwe into local context: “Everybody seems to have a different figure for inflation in Zimbabwe. The most commonly used is 24000 percent, though occasionally one still sees the government figure of 8000 percent. That’s year ON year, of course. I’ve used the inflation calculator here to get an idea of what the numbers should be.”

  • Oh my goodness. It is one of those things that must be seen to be believed. I have heard that apparently it is so bad down there that Zimbabweans have to do grocery shopping in South Africa because the local supermarkets cannot afford to stock their shelves. 150 million dollars for an oil filter???!!!! Dunia ina mambo kweli.
