The fourth global iSummit will be held by in Sapporo, Japan from 29 July to 1 August, 2008. The meeting, convened by iCommons, will bring together pioneers of the free Internet from over 60 countries to discuss open education, access to knowledge, free software, open access publishing and free culture communities.

Several Global Voices contributors will be attending and blogging the iSummit. Japanese Language Editor, Chris Salzberg, will be giving the following presentation on behalf of Global Voices during the Local Context Global Commons Lab. It explores the idea of Global Voices as a “remix” of other people's blogs, photos, and videos for a global audience.

Global Voices, Open Culture

From the state of free culture in Latin America in 2005 to the use of open source software in public institutions in Nicaragua in 2008, Global Voices has been paying close attention to the worldwide development free culture and open source. Our volunteer authors and translators are all motivated by the urge to disseminate and share information, from everywhere to everyone.

Global Voices content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Only license, which means that our articles can freely be re-published in other online or offline publications, as long we receive credit as the original source. Likewise, we always give credit to any photo, video or illustration that we use in any of our posts.
