Isela Xospa is Nahua, originally from Milpa Alta, and is a freelance illustrator, designer and editor. She studied Graphic Communication Design with a specialization in animation at UAM Xochimilco.
She currently directs Ediciones XospaTronik, a project that emerges as a self-managed and independent publishing house that deals with themes and characters from Milpa Alta, a Nahua region south of Mexico City.
Her work tries to summarize the search and reunion with her own culture, which was stigmatized and that grandparents stopped sharing with the new generations.
Revitalizing the Nahua component is an essential part of Isela's work and identity, because in her opinion, this origin is the one that far from being left behind gives her cultural advantages that she uses as an influence.
