How Beauty Trends Have Changed in Japan Over the Past 100 Years

Watchcut has added Japan to its ongoing video series “100 Years of Beauty,” providing a fascinating look at how beauty trends for women have changed in Japan over the last century.

The series uses a time lapse to track changes in makeup and hairstyles for women across a number of cultures over the past 100 years. Besides Japan, countries covered by the series include Iran, Korea and the Philippines, among many others.

Junko & Marina Taylor provided the research for the video, and many of their notes are documented on Pinterest.
