Thirty-seven stories from 35 countries [1] have made it through to the final round of judging in this year’s Social Impact Media Awards [2] (SIMA). Subjects include the trans-community in Puerto Rico, unrest in Haiti and tracing the migrant trail from Nigeria to the Netherlands.

Daniela Ko, SIMA Founder and Chief Executive says: “These filmmakers and activists re-imagine socio-political filmmaking, they set new standards for transparency, integrity and creativity, while transforming their camera, their narratives and by extension, their audiences, into vehicles for social justice”.

Finalists are entered into the SIMA Collection and Travelling series, a platform which works to showcases the documentaries around the world.

The winner of last year’s Best Feature Documentary award was ‘A World Not Ours [3]’ by Mahdi Fleifel – a portrait of statelessness and frustration in a Palestinian refugee camp in South Lebanon.  Now in its third year, SIMA has grown to become an international film program and  collection, curating and distributing the best impact cinema from around the globe.
