The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a self-declared Islamic Caliphate (kingdom) which covers swathes of Syria and Iraq is trending on Twitter in the US, under the self-explanatory hashtag #ISISmovies.

Netizens across the world are changing the names of popular movies to reflect the actions of the militant Sunni Islamists, also known as simply the Islamic State (IS), who have been terrorising people across Syria and Iraq, and posting the photographs of their blood curdling exploits, including those of crucifixions, mass murder and decapitated heads online for the world to witness the horror they are unleashing on civilians along their path.

All those who don't convert to their hardline version of Islam, and pay allegiance to their self-proclaimed Caliph Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, are called infidels – and as such deserve to die. In Iraq, the banishment of the Christians of Mosul and murder and starvation of Yazidis in Northern Iraq, in particular drew condemnation from across the world over the last few weeks.

From Massachusetts, this Twitter user changes Good Will Hunting to reflect IS's thirst for blood:

From Lebanon, Ink offers two ISIS productions. Gone in 60 Seconds becomes:

while How I Met Your Mother becomes:

The IS has destroyed several ancient temples and places of worship, as it considers the veneration of saints apostasy and Shia Muslims as heretics.

From Cairo, Egypt, AM Homossani adds a new twist to Sound of Music:

Haram, in Arabic, means sinful, and those fundamentalists also shun music, saying it is “the work of the devil.”

According to Hilal Ibrahim Toslak, Saving Private Ryan becomes:

Jihadists pick up nom de guerres, prefixed with Abu – which translates to “father of” from Arabic. IS recruits come from around the world, and those pseudonyms make them difficult to track down.

And Hassan Hassan, in Abu Dhabi, UAE, comes up with:

– again driving home the point of IS's favourite way to slaughter their victims.

Not everyone found the hashtag funny. Mohamed Alyahya, from New York, tells his 1,748 followers:

While Akhter, from Kashmir, notes:

Regardless of the hashtag, the blood thirsty terrorists continue mass murdering innocents where ever they go.
