Community Resistance in Ecuador

The website lists [es] nine resisting communities in Ecuador that, “is going through one of the worse community-level crisis about mining and oil extraction all along the country”.

One of such communities is Sarayaku, in Pastaza Province:

Sarayaku is the most successful community when it comes to defend its territory.

The Sarayaku case for giving in the early 90s an oil concession in its territory without considering any previous consultation was carried out after a December 2009 report by Inter-American Court of Human Rights where the conclusion was that Ecuador has violated, among others, Sarayaku rights to life, integrity, property and court guarantees.
