“With Loose Hair”

Denise Duncan, author of the blog Este no es el blog de Denise, shares an incident [es] that happened to her in the subway, when she faced two youngsters who were staring at her hair:

ME: Hey, I know you two are talking about my hair and that you are staring at it. And no big deal. You can take a look at it, I know it's flashy and I understand you are curious. I don't consider that offensive, in fact, what can I take as an offense is you pretending you weren't talking about me, but not that you were looking at my hair.

HIM: The thing is, I like it a lot.

When the boy asked her permission to touch her curly hair, she refused adamantly and then explained:

I'm not a teddy bear, I'm not a toy, I don't wear a wig. Don't insist. I'm not Marge Simpson. […] I am a person, not a character and your curiosity does not offend me, you making a thing out of me, that offends me.
