Egypt today announced it had arrested [2]a “duck” – with a spying gadget attached to its feathers. The duck turned out not to be a duck, perhaps a swan [3] [ar] – and the tracker on it was for a study. And now there is a new twist, the duck or swan may be a stork. On Twitter, netizens grab the occasion to quack up jokes.
Victor Salama notes:
No, i'm not on drugs: It says here that #SpyDuck [4] arrested in #Egypt [5] is a swan & that it actually migrated from France http://t.co/6iEoSqFMYi [6]

But the duck – now swan – may not even be a duck or a swan, says Mostafa Hussein:
'Spy' swan is a White Stork. Common migratory bird in autumn, spring. Passes Sinai, Hurghada & Nile sth of Qena. https://t.co/c7FjQ0Cmq9 [8] #pt [9]

Hussein, who changed his avatar on Twitter to one of a .. erm .. bird, also calls for freeing the bird – whatever it is:
Free the poor bird RT @deenahsn [11]: The spy swan behind bars! (half white, half black just like Natalie!) pic.twitter.com/1ZniggA9RV [12]

Mahmoud Salem jokes that there is more to the situation than meets the eye:
The curfew went from starting at 7 pm to starting at 11 pm the same day the #spyduck [14] got arrested. Coincidence? Don't think so!

And Austin G Mackell says the duck story could be a decoy:
Now worried the #SpyDuck [4] was a deliberate distraction and while we were all laughing they sold the #Suez [16] canal to america or something…

Timothty E Kaldas chuckles:
Salafi Abu Quacker message to #Egypt [5]: I'm fighting sale of foie gras bc it's not halal & tortures my bros hence my attack on Gouna. #SpyDuck [4]

While Tarek Radwan quips:
Anti-coup coalition calls for protests demanding release of Abu Quacker and son, Nour still debating implications. #SpyDuck [4]
