Peruvian Photographer Honored with Order of the British Empire

Queen Elizabeth II of England has approved the Order of the British Empire for Peruvian photographer Mario Testino, who lives in London since 1976, “for services to photography and charity”, as announced by the British government on its website.

Comparing the news with an event everyone is talking about in Peru, Twitter user Emi Gonzales said:

While Mario Testino is being honored by Queen Elizabeth II, our junior female volleyball players have being honored by [President of Congress] Freddy Otárola (who, by the way, is completely lost).

‘Matadorcitas’ is how people popularly know the members of the national junior volleyball team, who just achieved fourth place on the 2013 FIVB Girls Youth World Championship, recently held in Thailand. The girls have received multiple honors [es] upon their arrival to Peru.
