Punish the Unmarried in China?

Categories: East Asia, China, Arts & Culture, Ideas, Law

Starting from July 1, 2013 China put into effect a new filial piety law, requiring grown children to visit their parents [1] “frequently”. In reaction to the law, an elderly suggested to punish the unmarried one:

My kids shouldn't be treated as a violator of any law if they don’t visit me frequently. Instead, [if they are] 30 years old and still unmarried, now that should be treated as a violation of law. They should be sentenced.

Offbeat China has the story [2].
