Why Have Honduras Expats Stopped Blogging?

Laurie Matherne from Honduras Gumbo shares three theories about why expatriates in Honduras have stopped blogging: it's too dangerous, the economic crisis has forced many to leave, and those who stay “are forced to live in near chaos.”

She adds:

Personally, I am forced to spend more of my time just trying to maintain my projects and my personal life in Honduras. Each day, I come home exhausted just trying to survive. Many nights, the quiet is interrupted by rounds of gunfire. Not a great environment to think of sanguine, perky posts of daily life anecdotes.

I would be more interested in understanding why news services have gone silent about Honduras. The killing of an american ferry boat Captain, who provided the only direct service between the islands of Roatan went completely unreported by western news services. Not good for the current agenda?

Yes, Honduras is becoming more deadly every day. This is because of the classic battle of Axis and Allies. On the left we have Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro and Barack Obama and on the right we have Angela Merkel, Stephen Harper and Mitt Romney.

Non of these actors have any true interest in the well being of the people of Honduras, nor does the media or 99% of the people who receive information from the media. So why bother.

Honduras has been in deep recession since the day Micheal Jackson died and we are becoming accustomed with life at the bottom. So why complain to the spin doctors and zombies?

I just feel sorry for the people of Syria who are the latest victims of this sick game….

  • Thanks for the inclusion here. A few more notes of interest: The Peace Corps left due to concerns about security for the staff. Doctors without Borders have set up a five year project on the streets of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. They are working to treat gun shot victims, drug addicts, refuse collectors, the homeless, and the like.
