Is a Hamas/Israel Ceasefire on the Table?

News is spreading like wildfire online that a Gaza ceasefire will be signed between Hamas and Israel in Cairo tonight [Nov 20, 2012], following a week of violence.

From Gaza, Ismaeil Mohaisen reports:

@IsmaeilFadel: BREAKING: Hamas and Islamic jihad leaders will hold a press conference tonight in Cairo to announce a ceasefire deal brokered by Egypt.

Nigâr Hacızade ‏adds:

@nhacizade: Israeli Channel 10 and Al Jazeera Arabic both report a ceasefire (starting midnight, tonight) is to be announced soon #Gaza

And BBC Gaza and West Bank Correspondent Jon Donnison tweets:

@JonDonnison: Ayman Taha Hamas spokesman in Cairo tells BBC there will be a ceasefire coming into effect tonight.

Meanwhile, on Twitter reports continue of more shelling.

In the last half hour, Abigail Hauslohner, Washington Post Cairo Bureau Chief who is currently in Gaza, tweeted:

@ahauslohner
: Here we go. 4 strikes in the north in past few minutes. #Gaza

Sabiha Mahmoud wryly notes:

@SabihaMahmoud
: Apparently a ceasfire will be called tonight at 9pm…in the meantime Israel is given free reign to complete it's genocide #Gaza #Heal_Gaza

Andy Carvin offers an explanation:

@acarvin: One of the hard truths about cease-fires: the violence often escalates right before implementation to solidify position on the ground. #gaza

And Max Blumenthal asks:

@MaxBlumenthal: Will the journos parachuting into Gaza stick around after ceasefire to inform audiences about life under Israeli siege? CC: @andersoncooper
