New Orleans Jazz Band Performs with Youth of Japan Disaster-Region

Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Wonderful World Jazz Foundation in Japan raised and donated over 10 million yen ($127,000 USD) to New Orleans, the home of jazz music. To repay their kindness, one month following the the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011, the children of Kesennuma city in Miyagi Prefecture received a gift of musical instruments from New Orleans.

On October 7, 2012, O. Perry Walker's Chosen Ones Brass Band and Tipitina's Intern Band came to Japan to join a performance with the youth of disaster-stricken Tohoku region to show their support for recovery.
