On Facebook and on her blog, archeologist Vasilka Dimitrovska shared recent photos by Toni Mandzukovski, raising the alarm about the continuous destruction of the ancient Skopje Aqueduct [1], neglected by the authorities and used as a source of building material by the local population. The ironic title of her post [2] [mk] – “Let's build an older and more beautiful Aqueduct” – refers to the infamous statement [3] by a Serb leader during the 1991 bombing of the Croatian city of Dubrovnik [4]. Only three outlets have relayed the news so far: the Macedonian-language Fokus [5] and MKD [6], and the Albanian-language PortAlb.mk [7].
