The Indian media is biased towards a lot of things. That includes anything and everything that is not of immediate interest to the people of the markets that they milch out. The Northeast is also electorally insignificant since 7 states chip in with only 24 seats. This brings down the media significance.
I have been writing about the Northeast for 20 years. I know this first hand.
Not a resident but have travelled over NE Indian states ( Seven sisters ) for about two decades… do sincerely feel Ne has been given a step motherly treatment by rest of India be it people, economy, development, our behaviour towards our brothers & sisters of some NE states….etc.
This could have been to some extent redressed / mitigated if the Media gave a fairer coverage to these States. It’s still not too late to make amends by us as well as Central Govt. The faster the better.
Dear readers from the Northeast of India, we are searching for an author who will highlight and translate local citizen media (blogs, Twitter etc.) conversations from your region in Global Voices. I hope it will be an worthy effort to balance the media blackout. If you are interested please send me an email. Thanks.
