Brazil: The Heterossexual Pride Day is Announced

Brazilian activist Alessandra Nane (@Lessinha_nane) informs [pt] that the City Council of São Paulo has just approved the Heterosexual Pride Day, a project led by evangelical leaders, to take place on the third Sunday of December. Nane ironically wonders when the “White Awareness Day”, among others, will also be approved.

The Brazilian religious right is stronger than ever. Nothing like religion to stunt the dissemination of basic civil rights.

  • Although this seems unnecessary, in a free society there’s no reason why there can’t be a “heterosexual pride” parade. I just wonder if there will be images of sexual organs and other overt displays in this parade, as in the gay pride parades generally?

Wow. I’m excited for “Human Pride Day”. You know, a day dedicated to being proud of being a human being.
