What is the total cost and efforts of getting peace?

Afghanistan has been giving millions of life, human capital, and economy; fair to say all away for peace, and continuing.

I am trying to find out some metrics to measures at least and answer the above question.

In other terms, I may ask peaceful countries citizens how are they a peaceful country and sustaining peace.

I will appreciate your comments and will help me to fight for that.
