Georgia: Sex & the EU

Categories: Central Asia & Caucasus, Georgia, Ethnicity & Race, International Relations, Travel, Women & Gender

Social Science in the Caucasus examines the results of a 2008 survey aimed at comparing Georgian social attitudes to those in the EU. The survey, for example, found that 80 percent of Georgians with no family members in EU member states were against the idea of a woman having sex before marriage. However, for those Georgians who did have a family member living abroad in Europe, the number of those opposed was 54 percent. The blog ponders what these results, along with others, mean for the former Soviet republic [1].
