Emin Milli [2] was detained in July the following year, along with fellow activist Adnan Hajizade [3], before being sentenced to 2.5 in prison that November on what many believe to be trumped up charges of “hooliganism.” Amnesty International has declared both men to be prisoners of conscience and supporters have started up a new petition to urge U.S. President Barack Obama to call for their release when he meets his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, at the UN General Assembly this month [4].
