Jamaica Salt says the kill-or-be-killed approach to controlling crime is ineffective: “When things are tough it’s hard not to look at possible solutions like this. But this has been a style of policing in Jamaica for decades now and it is not working. The murder rates speak for themselves.”

Unfortunately this will not change for now. Public attitudes towards crime are hardening and fear growing. Recently, the nightly news featured a disturbing video made by a member of the public where people were encouraging cops to shoot an unarmed man. They killed him. There was little outrage.
