Jamaica: Policing Style

Jamaica Salt says the kill-or-be-killed approach to controlling crime is ineffective: “When things are tough it’s hard not to look at possible solutions like this. But this has been a style of policing in Jamaica for decades now and it is not working. The murder rates speak for themselves.”

  • Unfortunately this will not change for now. Public attitudes towards crime are hardening and fear growing. Recently, the nightly news featured a disturbing video made by a member of the public where people were encouraging cops to shoot an unarmed man. They killed him. There was little outrage.
