Brazil: Michael Jackson Immortalized at a Slum in Rio de Janeiro

Michael Jackson was honored this week in Rio de Janeiro's Santa Marta Slum. The terrace where he recorded part of the videoThey don't really care about us” in 1996, is now officially called “Michael Jackson Terrace” and it is also the scenario for a statue of the artist (see photo).

  • Wow, that’s really cool for Santa Marta to honor MJ. I was watching the BET Music Awards last night and saying to a friend how no other artist has even come close to accomplishing what Michael Jackson has done as far as creating “universal” music. You can take any race, nationality, sex, age, rich, poor, gangster, gentleman, gay, straight and put them all in the same room and then put on some “Thriller,” “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” or whatever and have everyone come together and feel the music. I don’t think no other artist will ever do it again or even come close…
