Sarah Noorbakhsh, at Japan Subculture Research Center's blog, reports [en] on the forthcoming cooperation between the National Police Agency (NPA) and the Japan Security Dealers Association (JSDA). The police will provide information for a database on yakuza (Japanese mafia) members “to combat organized crime members opening securities accounts”.

I heard that yakuza was accepted by the public, so are they only fought because they are illegal? Of course, this would be a reason, but when I read something about the yakuza it did not sound so bad. They seem to deal with prostitution, drugs(?) and such stuff.
Moreover, I heard they have normal offices. I’d like to meet one. I think when I am in Japan and see somebody with a lot of tattoosn I’ll ask him :D
Hi berlinerstrasse,
Ask what? :)
I recommend Jake Adelstein’s ‘Tokyo Vice’ (his blog is the one that Scilla linked to above) if you’re interested in the nuances of yakuza.
