Madagascar Leader Rajoelina Drops from Presidential Running

Madagascar transitional president Andry Rajoelina announced in a statement on national radio that he will not be a candidate for the presidential elections scheduled on November 26th, 2010 (fr).  Achille in Madagascar  hopes that this decision will help the international community decide to financially support democratic elections (fr).

Russia: Reaction on New Military Draft Initiatives

LJ user calabaxa ironically reflects on the new conscription initiatives that extend the draft age to 30 years: “…Actors will come [to the conscription offices – GV], artists, musicians, writers, which labour isn't bought by anyone… Everyone will come. They'll take the weapons and will end with this order forever.”

Russia: Opposition Blogger Missing

Alauddin Dudko, Moscow-based author and editor of  ingushetia.org (and LJ mirror ingushetia_ru) was accused of possessing explosives and arrested on May 1. His wife said that for 12 days she didn't hear from him and did not know where he was. Dudko wrote for various Russian blogs and was connected...
