Wife of imprisoned blogger and activist Hu Jia, Zeng Jinyan [1], has issued an appeal [2] calling for Hu's release on medical grounds following reports [3] that he might have developed a form of liver cancer. Artist Wu Wenjian speculates [4] that with standard practice being to provide sick inmates with treatment (in addition to prison fears of inmate deaths), the decision to deny Hu hospitalization must have come from above.
