Qatar: Did Doha finally get a Wal Mart?

Hopes soared and then crashed in Doha on Monday as news that a Walmart has opened here spread throughout the Tweetosphere.

@WeirdWeb writes:

RT @dohanews Doha, Qatar opens Wal Mart http://is.gd/6uUUh

It quickly become known, however, that Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, was not responsible for the new store.

On Here, There and Everywhere, the source of the breaking news, commenter adiamondinsunlight said:

love it! and love that the Qatari authorities approved the name (when the owner registered for limited liability status)!

To which intlexpatr, who reported the news, replied:

LOL – you think they really got permission?

Back on Twitter, @ExpatCookie mused:

do you think they have similar shoppers to the US walmarts? http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ :)

Sure honey, I’ll go get the car for you. That long walk could be detrimental to your health.
