Mr.John, You are absolutely correct. I am not worried about Gen. Sarath Fonseka being denied of his rightful place, but deeply shocked and feel very uncomfortable and scared at the way that democracy of this country being put in a coffin so simply like Mugabe, Qaddafi, Saddam,Ahamedinejad and Than Shwe did in their countries.
It is extremely wicked and unreasonable to compare Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa to some of the megalomaniacs mentioned by Karl. For generations to come Mahinda will be remembered in the annals of Sri Lanka, as a true leader sent by God, to save mother Lanka from all the LTTE demonic powers and other traitors who tried to destroy our country beyond redemption. The will of God prevailed, that once again Lankadweepa will be that replendent island nation with tranquility that none can match.
So people, do not write unkind words to appease Sri Lankan traitors, regime changers of the west, arms dealers bent on supporting civil wars and the remnants of the LTTE at home and abroad who promote western interference in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.
Mr.Rajapaksa saved our country where others wanted to sell it any price. So in the general election do remember to vote for the UPFA, who will protect Sri Lanka at any cost.
Dear Mr.Laksman, I think you are a lover of fairytale and fantasy stories, I don’t have anything against President Rajapaksa being the head of state when the war against separatism was won, actually he was ready for peace negotiations with LTTE till Mavilaru incident, and it was the JVP & Hela Urumaya who wanted our forces to retaliate.
As you said if President Rajapaksa is such a soft and sweet character he should first implement the 17th amendment and show the whole world that he is a real democratic leader
Sarath Fonseka now being decimated to worse than a one cent copper coin had really no place in Sri Lankan politics. He never had the grey matter to think intelligently why he was propped up as a pawn of Sri Lankan traitors, separatists and international terrorists, hell bent on bringing bloodshed once again after the demonic terrorist war.
It was certainly no fairy tale or fantansy the crying of the innocents for over thirty long years. When the LTTE demons wated eelam or nothing, peace negotiations and ceasefire agreements meant nothing more than arming themselves with weapons of mass destruction. The only solution was total warfare to kill all the demons. No other president or prime minister did this. Why? They were buiding their castles because of the war.
The LTTE demonic terrorists closed the Mavil Aru annicts, depriving 35,000 innocent farmers of valuable water for their survival. So it was absolutely justifiable for the army to retaliate.
There is a controversy regarding the 17th amendment. What are the pros and cons of implementing it? Are there any hidden agendas that support interested parties to the detriment of others?
In recent times have the powerful leaders of developed world US and UK demonstrated true democracy to the rest of the world? Is democracy secondary to permanent interests?
Or is democracy simply a word originated in the ancient world, which has now become obsolete?
The world is not worried about democracy or Sri Lanka. So Mr.Rajapaksa will deliver what is best for all its citizens and take his time to do so.
Leaving aside the 17th ammendment the constitution itself was drawn up to perpetuate UNP governance forever. Those responsible were the then President, J.R.Jayawardena,Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini Dissanayaka.
What really came out of it initially is a pack of MP’s who are not answerable to a constituency but loyal to a party and themselves, resulting in chaotic situations which gave way to the 13th ammendment and the seventeenth and ethnic division.
UNP failed to continue in power and the MP’s now cross over freely breaking party affiliations.
So the Pundits failed to achieve their main objectives and brought about absolute chaos in the country.
This is what happens when people think of perpetuating themselves forever in power at the expense of the country and its people.
Politics all over the world is dirty and our last contest was most demeaning and sadly lacking in stature.
The educated voters also made their contribution with their usual ” I say do you know Rajapakse’s have bought that new Koththu Rotty joint near the British Embassy and away it went like a kite from household to household, as during the Premadasa era, helping others waiting to gather their forces to make use of the oportunity given them by power hungry politicians and a so called educated electorate in Colombo and other towns.
Sambandan and Mahesan did not fail the tamils, they were quick to gather their forces and make full use of the situation and come up with a proposal for division of the country, as it was before the forces got the leadership of the terrorist movement.
A good lesson for other ethnic groups.
WHAT really was the joint opposition proposal for endorsement by the electorate ?There was no plan.
I think even the Pettah market operation each morning is more orderly and set to meet a purpose.
The few foreigners left in town were very quick to suggest to the voters that they should vote for the General because they could expect a better deal from the novice of 40 days in politics without an agenda, except threats to deal with the President and his supporters in the same way they alleged the President and his buddys were dealing with the people.
So why change might as well go along with the known devil than the unknown, though the General showed up well declaring his assets during the campaign which resulted in his downfall.
His outbursts were nothing new to the members of the forces who knew him well over the forty year period he served in the army.
Sri Lanka will continue to be an interesting place as long as we hear the buzz and pass it on to another.
Mind you all those people yapping are so much in the know as if they saw it all happen before their own eyes!!
We, all of us, will reap what we sow and nothing less and nothing more.
There is absolutely no need to get turned on emotionally for everything has to and will fall into place.
Thank you Nimal Suriarachchi for your reply to John. The presidential election and the general election proved beyond a shadow of doubt, that the majority of people in Sri Lanka overwhelmingly gave their utmost support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, to bring Sri Lankadweepa once again to be the resplendent sovereign nation, that was once the pearl of the orient. After the recent election the President called upon all the people to support him in rebuilding our nation, that was once the envy of the south east Asian countries. Lee Qwan yu the Prime Minister of Singapore said in the 1950’s, to take the example of Ceylon as the nation was then known. All patriotic sons and daughters of Sri Lanka shed silent tears for over 30 years to see our nation heading to a bottomles pit. All that is history now. However, there are internal and external elements who are hell bent in taking a path to those dreadful years. For instance the British Tamil Forum, a pro LTTE group supported by ilks like Milliband the Foreign Secretary and others, are campaigning a propaganda asking people to boycott all Sri Lankan products in super makkets. They cannot punish Sri Lanka by such demeaning actions. They should know that Sri Lanka still has an ethnic Tamil population of approx. 3 million people. Advocating boycott measures means
their dislike for their own kith and kin. Then there are expatriates in UK, US,
EU and Australia who are trying to fool the Tamils there, in forming LTTE governments in exile. To those gullible Tamils there, I say do not waste your hard earned money in such fruitless ventures, like many did to that megalomaniac Prabakaran. Instead my advice to all Tamils in Sri Lanka and in foreign lands is to assimilate like brothers and sisters in building one extraordinary country with much TLC, trust, honesty and truth. By dividing any country will go backwards and fall, but by uniting great nations have been built. By goodwill, patience and love all things are possible.
Lakshman, you are spot on !There weree Expats who were deeply involved in raising money for the LTTE and ended up looking complete clowns and now are bitter and stirring things upi, they have no doubt support from local Members of Parliament sitting on marginal seats in those respective Countries such as the UK and Australia who badly need the local Tamils vote. The TV stations in some countries are strongly lobbied by the more affluent LTTE sympathisers and for John to say to find out the truth of whats happening in SL ,you need live Overseas is nonesense as its a very one eyed view. How many TV Stations or for that matter Foerign Newspapers gave positive publicity to the Government for the convincing win over the LTTE.It was a very lukewarm acknowledgement of the defeat and the emphasis was more on news about the civilian deaths in the last 72 hours and the killing of the Child Soldiers that was highlighted- more research into who these Child Soldiers were and why they were used at the death knell would have opened their eyes .Before passing judgement living overseas,Tamils should visit the North and the East and see what development is taking place. The war ended only last May,but judging by some of the articles written by senseless critics they expect MR,to re-bulid the North, create employment,re-build Universities, complete the infrastructure such as the Roads and Railway Lines in the space of 12 months. How long did Germany or Japan take or for that matter Vietnam in more recent times. The demise of RW was this same attitude he never had a positive alternative but was an eternal critic and when he had to deliver he failed.
