Ukraine: Election and Freedom of Speech

Foreign Notes writes about the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine and the impact that its outcome may have on the freedom of speech: “It must be dispiriting for journalists to know how little impact is made by their revelations of Ukraine's leaders’ systematic abuse of power, and a worry to think of any possible ‘pay-back’ in the weeks after next month's presidential election ends.”

  • Demotix (www.demotix.com) is a London-based citizen-journalism website and photo agency. With freedom of speech and the freedom to know as its core principles, the website takes user-generated content and photographs from not only freelance journalists, but also amateurs, and markets them to the mainstream media.

With the Ukrainian presidential elections coming up on the 17th of January, there is potential interest from our media clients in stories from the Ukraine. Wherever you are in the Ukraine on the January 17, we are sure there will be interesting stories to tell. With the help of Demotix, you can share your stories, opinions and experiences of the election with a global community of over 10000 users. You could even make some money.
