Peru: Cow Parade arrives to Lima

For the past days, Lima has been invaded by life-size cow sculptures. The Cow Parade shows 80 different works in parks and public spaces of the city that will be auctioned to collect funds for several organizations. The event was originally created in Switzerland to promote milk-production activity.

The sculptures can be around the city, as listed by Viajando por Perú [es] website:

Cada pieza que ha sido diseñada y pintada con creatividad e ingenio se viene exhibiendo en la Plaza de Armas (10 vacas), Pasaje de los Escribanos (5 vacas), esto en Cercado de Lima. En Miraflores se podrá ver la muestra en el Parque Salazar (15 vacas), Parque del Amor (5 vacas), Parque Raimon[d]i (12 vacas), Parque Kennedy (10 vacas). Mientras que en Pueblo Libre las verá en el Parque Central (4 vacas). En Surco se exhibirán 9 vacas en el Jockey Plaza. Barranco también muestra estas piezas en en Parque Saenz Peña (7 vacas) y el Pasaje Chabuca Granda (3 vacas).

Each piece, creatively and cleverly designed and painted, is being exhibited in Lima Main Square (10 cows), Scribes Passage (5 cows), in Downtown Lima. In [the district of] Miraflores, the exhibit can be seen in Salazar Park (15 cows), Love Park (5 cows ), Raimondi Park (12 cows), Kennedy Park (10 cows). Meanwhile, [the district of] Pueblo Libre can appreciate them in Central Park (4 cows). In [the district of] Surco, 9 cows will be exhibited in Jockey Plaza Mall. [The district of] Barranco has also some of these pieces in Saenz Peña Park (7 cows) and in Chabuca Granda Passage (3 cows).

But, how did it all started? ***Tota Iluxtra*** blog has the answer [es]:

Hace unos años Walter Snapp suizo se le ocurrio promocionar la actividad de los productores de leche en Zurich con colorida[s] vacas pintadas con los pinceles de artistas locales, las cuales fueron diseña[da]s en fibra de vidrio. En 1999 el empresario Meter Hanig de Chicago, adquirio los derechos y llevo el conce[p]to a USA, desde entonces este peculiar evento [h]a recaudado 25 millones de dolares para fines beneficos.

Some years ago, Swiss Walter Snapp had the idea of promoting the milk-producing activity in Zurich with colorful cows painted with local artists paintbrushes, designed on fiberglass. In 1999, businessman Meter Hanig from Chicago, acquired the rights and took the concept to the US, [and] since then this peculiar event has collected 25 million dollars for charity causes.

The blog Corresponsales escolares [es], hosted by Peruvian newspaper El Comercio, tells us who will get the benefits from Lima Cow Parade:

Luego de la exposición se realizará la subasta de 64 esculturas para recaudar fondos para el Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú, la ONG Socios en Salud y La Fundación Lima.

After the exhibit, there will be an auction for 64 sculptures in order to collect funds for Ann Sullivan Center of Peru, Socios en Salud NGO (Partners in Health) and the Lima Foundation.
