Sudan: Should South Sudan separate?

John responds to a statement by South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit that Southerners should form an independent state. President Mayardit said, “If South Sudanese want to remain as second class citizens, let them vote for unity in the referendum in 2011. And if they want to be free, they should vote for separation.”

  • Are there any guarantees that the future regimes in Sudan will protect and respect all citizens regardless of their religion, ethnicity, color, or geographical origin? Are there any guarantees that the northern regimes will not start yet another jihad against the south and kill, rape, enslave, or force out of the country the southerners left alive after the last war?

    Independence of South Sudan is inevitable!
