India: The Paradox Of Poverty

Smart Alec comments on the paradox of poverty: “India is indeed a rich country with a lot of poor people in it. And it’s these poor people who make rich India rich, give it its wealth of poverty. India cannot afford to give up its lucrative poverty; it must perpetuate it.”

  • A Sanskrit verse says,

    परीक्ष्य सत्कुलं विद्याम्
    शीलं शौर्यं सुरूपताम् ।
    विधिर्ददाति निपुणः
    कन्यामिव दरिद्रताम् ॥

The fate wisely attributes poverty to a person only after thoroughly studying his family background (cultural background), knowledge, conduct, courage and his beauty, just like what the caring parents do before arranging their daughter’s marriage.

(One who has any of the qualities mentioned above, should be able to make a living out of it)
