Well, couple of things about that opening ceremony. Even though this was the Deaf-lympics, they invited a bunch of musical acts. What in the world? And I’m not sure how minor the fire incident was when the whole logo was on fire and then crashed down onto the seats below and continued burning. No one was sitting there, but still…
Also, that Taipei Times report is a smear of the Democratic Progressive Party when it says “opposition politicians” didn’t attend. We won’t even discuss that Taiwan doesn’t have a parliamentary system and thus doesn’t have “opposition politicians”, but Chen Ju, mayor of Kaohsiung, attended as did Su Tseng-chang, former Premier, and Tsai Ying-wen, the current chairman of the DPP.
