Santosh at Über Desi finds that almost all foreign actresses recently introduced in Bollywood movies are young fair skinned attractive females. The blogger opines that: “an unhealthy obsession with skin color is not a new phenomenon to Indian society, a deep rooted post-colonial hangover, that seems to manifest itself in weird acts like smearing bleach on our skin to attain the ultimate nirvana of having ‘fair skin’.”

Why criticise so meanly? These foreign actors are less expensive and often happy to bare more. Indians love gehuvarna, not a pallid white color, hence white sons/daughters in law are rarely seen as attractive or prized for their color. To the contrary! Some of this criticism may reflect ABCD’s own parental conflicts because their Indian bred/educated or uneducated parents have usually done better than they have…
BTW, what about Americans who advertise for blue eyed partners or spend billions on unhealthy tanning, pseudo tanning and messy creams?
