Egypt: Gamal Mubarak … Why Not?

Coinciding with Gamal Murbak's Sharek initiative, Egyptian singer Mohsen El Sayad decided to campaign for Gamal Mubarak in his own way [AR].

Leih Maye7komshi (Why is he not fit to rule?) is the name of the song and Wa7da Masreya quoted the lyrics:

So why shouldn't he rule? Why is he unfit? He knows best! He's the president's son! He knows it all! He needs no power! He needs no wealth! Born a president to a president … do not give those who say he will inherit the presidency your ears! All Upper Egyptians love Gamal … All fala7een (peasants) love Gamal … All Egyptians love Gamal … for he is royalty born in royalty. Gamal Mubarak I shall vote for. If nominated, I will vote for Gamal Mubarak. 99% say they want Gamal. 99% want Gamal. Look carefully at the 80 million Egyptians and find me someone who is more fit than Gamal Mubarak. I have lived in peace and I want my children to enjoy the same life … so tell me what's wrong with Gamal Mubarak being his father's successor?

Concluding her post, she wrote:

Jimmy (Jamal) lives in another Egypt; he lives in the Egypt dominated by businessmen and he will fail to entice youth involvement via Facebook or blogs because both are mediums that depend mainly on freedom of expression; whereas, Gamal belongs to a ruling party that oppresses and fights freedom of speech, arrests and tries bloggers. Gamal and his party have printed blogs; Al Ahram and Al Gomhuria Newspapers and other national newspapers that cheer for them. Gamal Mubarak … enjoy your new song and may you never rule.

Appy planet also posted the lyrics and commented:

I really want to tell you about the shock of your life; when I ask common Egyptians, they tell me why not .. why wouldn't he rule? He is good! They simply do not know anyone else. Most poor Egyptians do not know anything other than putting daily food on their table and this is why they do not care who rules. It seems that we are a minority who do not want him.

Ibn Ad Dunia also posted the song saying:

As a teaser to my (possible) blog post about yesterday´s hyped Sharek event featuring Gamal and the future of Egypt, the young and bright, i´ll give you Mohsen el Sayad´s song in honuor of the reluctant politician, NDP hot shot, eloquent speaker , patient listener and perhaps Egypt´s future leader – Enjoy!

And Tariq Ez AlDen does not believe that Sharek will create the desired outcome:

When we asked a random sample of young Egyptians about Gamal Mubarak's initiative, we learnt that they have not heard of it.
This might be a coincidence but there is another indicator; on Facebook, Sharek's group reached 3,500 members before the first meeting between supporters and opponents of the NDP whereas the April 6 group that initiated the April 6 strike two years ago reached more than 74,000 members

Finally Ahmed Al Sabbagh has a few questions to ask Gamal Mubarak:

Have you considered becoming an Egyptian citizen before becoming our president?
Have you considered living like an Egyptian; standing in a row waiting for bread, running behind a bus, crossing a street flooded with sewage water, drinking from the Nile, eating beans, paying water, electricity, phone, gas, internet, and school bills? Have you drank tap water coming directly from the Nile with all its pollution that is perfectly fit for a chemical war? Have you experienced going to your mansion in a bus? Did you wear you heels out looking for an apartment to rent? Did the search and the trip from one broker to the other eat up your youth and left you at the age of 40 wondering why you even want to get married? Have you joined the work force of a private sector company that promised you a huge salary? Have you realized that if you saved your huge salary for 140 years, you will still fail to buy an apartment? Did you feel the urge to flee this god-forsaken country in a boat and risk death and humiliation? Did you ever feel that desperate, frustrated, humiliated, and demeaned in a country of 7,000 years of civilization?
