As reactions to the government's clampdown on illegal immigrants goes “off the boil”, Barbados Underground “condemns…the holier than thou attitude which President Jagdeo of Guyana and his cronies have directed at Barbados.”

I issue of immigration really troubles me, i do understand that some of the Guyanese come to Barbados and over stay their visa, and this post a problem for the country, but we must take into consideration that life in Guyana is difficult for some of these people. And at one time Barbados was the place to go to make a living, look how quickly we Bajan forget. As a bajan i would say to the government of Barbados allow the Guyanes that are there now to say,try to secure the water way because alot of these guyaneses bring with them their skill and culture that can only add to the tapestry of the Bajan society, give the people a chance.

  • i am all for giving people a chance providing you have the where with all to do so .Barbados is a small country and it has to put the interest of its people first.other countries who has similiar practices are much larger than this little island.nothing personnel

Honestly, I believe that Guyanese folks are being ‘given a chance’.. let’s be clear, the whole immigration issue relates to those illegally in the country.

There are countless others who are there legally and contribute to the country with their skill and culture as the previous post asked for Bajans to do. Its not about being Guyanese, but being in a country illegally so let’s not muddy the waters with what the real issue is.

The fact that the government is allowing the illegal ones to at least sort their status is more chance than most other countries would allow.

I totally disagree with the school of thought that those illegally there should just be allowed to stay as this sends the wrong message. When one does not obey the law, consequences should follow and it doesn’t matter if you are guyanese, bajan, american, etc…

So in summary, I fully support the B’dos government as its all nice to give folks a chance within limits but let’s not allow ourselves to be carpets in the process.
