Sri Lanka: Prabhakaran, The King Maker Is Dead

Ajith P. Perera at Dare To Be Different writes about the life of the slain LTTE rebel chief: “Prabhakaran is no more a hero than Hitler or Pol Pot, but he is a legend that will live on. I am sure for centuries to come mothers use his name to scare little children.”

It is horrowing to hear that 20000 civilian tamils are killed in the operation prabhakaran. In the modern world, whatever the reason for a conflict, the price paid is tremendous. If 20000 civilians, 70000 tigers and scores of military have to sacrifice lives to kill one man, we should think if the struggle itself is worth. Mr. Rajpakse who is beating his trumpet of eradicating evil should question if he was able to safeguard lives of the people of entire nation, if so who will answer for lives of 20000 lives of civilians. Srilanka can dismiss the same as propoganda against them. But the fact remains that lives have gone, whatever the number may be. Prabhakaran used violence to emilinate state leaders and State used violence to eliminate him. What is the difference between a dreaded terrorist and the governement? Who will answer for the lives of people who are killed in the war?
