Morocco: On Poverty

A Moroccan About the world around him discusses poverty in his country in this post.”I discovered that indeed, twenty years ago, whole families in Morocco lived in caves; today, many more still do. It’s a reality most Moroccan city dwellers were unaware of,” he remarks.

  • Mohamed,

Thank you for your comment. Let me start by assuring you that I have nothing against Morocco or Moroccans, have no personal agendas or extremist political ideas.

This site, Global Voices Online, links to blogs, written by bloggers. The story above links to what a Moroccan blogger has written about his own country, which I am sure he had visited and knows its people.

Mohamed brother, this people are well paid to give this negative image about Morocco.
We don’t care about them, Algeria is giving tons of dollars, but this king of cheap journalism means nothing, let them invent stories, we and the free world knows the reality, and Algerians are trying to copy us, in blogging and commenting, but as you know copiying it’s a signal of a weak personality….
I am not going to read this blog again, another thing Moroccan map you like it or not is double bigger than shown in the pic…. lol
    moroccan Sahara for ever.

  • Dear Jalal,
You and your brother Mohamed are crossing a line here and accusing us of something we don’t have a hand in.
I really don’t know how to explain this project in simpler terms but allow me to attempt a second explanation:
Our mandate is to link to conversations taking part in blogs and citizen media outlets around the world – and if you have issue with our selections, you are more than welcome to discuss them in a civilised manner – without hurling accusations at us.
The link talks about poverty in Morocco. Can you give us proof that there is no poverty there so that we can have a retraction and apologise to you and the Moroccan people for any harm this link may have caused?

    To M Benjelloun:

To deny that Morocco is a feudal country with one of the worst social disparities in the world is just ludicrous. 80 % of Morocco PLC is literally owned by ONA a front-end for Mohamed VI to siphon all the wealth of the country. The rest is a dog fight between his cronies that are no more than a dozen of holdings owned by few families. Instead of attacking “Amira Al Hussaini”, thank her for bringing this subject to the attention of the world. However, somebody with your reactionary views would not care about the plight of the poor in Morocco.
