President Obama has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming Fifth Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago, prompting This Beach Called Life to write him a letter of welcome and The Secret Blog of Patrick “Patos” Manning to write a creative post on “Mr. Obama’s late RSVP”.

It’s all well and good that President Obama would be visiting Trinidad and Tobago for the 5th Summit of the Americas. It would help in widening Patrick Manning’s already big ego. However, Trinidad and Tobago cannot afford the elaborate spending that went into hosting this summit. Murders and kidnappings are a major issue, along with the recent phenomenon of human trafficking. Corruption in state construction projects is rampant, with millions of TT$ being wasted due to incompetent contactors. Not to mention the price of oil has fallen well below its estimated $70/bbl, and the gas price has fallen also. A major national campaign has been launced to crackdown on pH taxi drivers, heavily tinted vehicles, relocation of destitutes from the streets, and beautification of the environment. My fervent desire is to see this sort of drive and enthusiasm after the summit is over. We as a nation should seek to address our problems before addressing those of others.
