Sri Lanka: Suppression of Dissent

Lanka Dissent, a Sri Lankan Internet news site in Sinhala , Tamil and English languages has decided to close down. An excerpt from its farewell message: “In this compassionate, democratic Buddhist land enfolded with love, in wisdom and fullest freedom, media is forbidden to raise a dissenting voice. Media is forbidden to criticize the “law” of the ruling regime. The media is forbidden to speak for the people.” Details are at In Mutiny blog.

  • “Media is forbidden to criticize the “law” of the ruling regime. The media is forbidden to speak for the people.”
    by whom? says who?
as far as can made out nobody is forcing lanka dissent to close down . it may have lost donors given the fact that hardly anybody depnded on its “news” and covering that up

  • I think this editorial is more a comment on the fact that the Sinhalese and their government is misusing and politicizing Buddhism. How can any state that says they are Buddhist, tout a war and violence to this extent!!!!
