China: Due to a fire, 4 officials found living in a luxury hotel every day.

A fire burned down a hotel in a small town in An Hui province, 1 dead, 3 seriously injured when jumping down. It grabs the attention of blogsphere, however, not because it being thought as a tragedy, but that the 4 are all local officials long living there. It’s questioned whether that is a waste of public money for their living in the luxury hotel every day.

Bob Chen,who may still be a high student and needs more social life experiences both in east and west nations, may need to chech personally what kind of luxury hotel mentioned in his comments, supposed that Bob Chen, if lucky enough at present situation, gets a offer by a giant commercial institute or goverment to be stationed at a remote area, dose Mr.Bob set up a tent by roadside?

1. Chang-Feng 长丰, the town where the fire burned, is one of the national poverty counties. 国家级贫困县
2. Chang Feng Hotel is the best hotel in the region, the only hotel there built by the 3-star standard.
3. A piece of news concerning the place:
Golf court built in national poverty county, about 300 arcs of farmers’ land levied. (国家级贫困县建高尔夫球场 2088亩农民土地丧失)
And the farmers were poorly compensated. A farmer mentioned in the story told his wife can earn only 300/ month. He moaned they could hardly survive in this way.
4. The cost for living in the hotel, by estimation, is 150/day. I don’t think it so high, but even 50 would be a large sum to the town and the public fund.
If you consider living condition of a hotel in absolute term, I am afraid the most luxury hotel in China is nothing compared to the one in Dubai.
But indeed, your view to underestimate the problem is not uncommon. People who criticized the officials have been chided for naivety on the internet that cadets often live in hotels and nothing should be amazing. But what they don’t see is that the event reflect people’s worry upon the unrestricted and nontransparent use of public fund, that without the fire, most people don’t even know where the officials usually stay. That’s what netizens disapprove.
