Macedonia: NATO and the Name Issue

Macedonia's foreign minister Antonio Milososki said this in Helsinki earlier this month: “Republic of Macedonia fulfilled the criteria for membership in the North-Atlantic Alliance, but it will join in when it will be allowed to do so in a dignified manner.” Say: Macedonia comments: “This statement mirrors the public opinion in Macedonia and is illustrating how important is for us Macedonians to be recognized under the only name we find possible: Macedonia, and the ethnic group: Macedonians.”

Of course there are other minorities in Greece.
    But a Macedonian ethnicity??????
    That is a modern fabrication.

Boris and your friends. Lets put things in perspective. You are not a historian as you know nothing of history.Secondly, let me introduce you to some Greek intelectuals. In 1925 at the League of Nations a high ranking Greek representative Vasilis Dendramanis said”The Macedonian language is neigther Bulgarian nor Serbian but an independent language” The high ranking greek official representing the Greek State not only recognized the existance of the Macedonian identity, but openly defended and supported it. Anastasia Karakasidous 300 page study of ethnicity and identity in the Northern Greek province of Macedonia has been put on the back burner by Cambridge University Press. The Greek government put a stop to the publication. The greek ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia said”Athens should recognize Macedonia and the Macedonian minority in Greece, after all Macedonia existed much longer than Greece in the wider area called Macedonia” In 1903 on september 3rd in the New York Times the greek Prime Minister Ralis said”greece helped Turkey to suffocate the Ilinden Uprising. The response is simple,”he said, before us we have a pack of wolfs which attacked Macedonian. To destroy them not only will we join forces with Turkey but we are prepaired to do anything to protect our interests. We are not prepaired to take into consideration those who resist oure cooperation with Turkey”In a similar New York Times article we read”The Greek stand to help Turkey againts the Macedonian revolutionaries.”Further we read “The Greek government helped the Turkish Sultan through its CONSUL in Macedonia by asking the Greek people to spy on the Macedonian revolutionaries and report them to the Turkish authorities.”Does this sound that Macedonia is Greek? Did Greece have a CONSUL in Pelopones,Thesale or anywherelse in Greece proper?I can give more examples that your head will spean.Mr. Valianatos was fired for saying that Macedonia must be recognized and the Macedonian minority in Northern Greece.Dora Grossomanidou the ambassador to Macedonia said”Athen should recognize Macedonia and the Macedonian minority in Northern Greece, after all Macedonia existed in the wider area before Greece did”Athena Skoularili a sociology professor at the University of Crete, for example says that Greece is tangled in a strategic dead end .In the course of the last 16 years we have lost one battle after another and still have not seriously considered what we are doing wrong. Why is the outside world not supporting the Greek thesis on this issue? Why after so many years of trying has Greece not succeeded in convincing the international public?”asks professor Skoulariki.According to Skoulariki the Greek arguments are not convincing because it is a fundamental right of all people to freely chose their name, we insist that our neighbor has no right to use the name Macedonia, ignoring the fact that during the 19th and 20th century there was a wider region called Macedonia.”Do you know what Isocrates wrote to King Phillip, and what Demosthenes wrote for the fallen Hellens at Chaeronea in 337BC.The war between Macedonia and the Hellens(Lamian War). Before you try to teach someone history, you better learn the history professor Boris.

    The Region is called Macedonia.
That is why Greeks from the region of Macedonia identify themselves as Macedonian.

But they do not consider themselves ethnic Macedonians..

You on the other hand, have created a Macedonian ethnicity.

    That is the problem.

And yes I am a Historian.
Stop reciting FYROMIAN propaganda and rad a non FYROM book for the development of your knowledge and historical understanding.

Boris, I am ethnicly Macedonian from the Greek province of Macedonia. My identity,my ethnicity are Macedonian,I am not Greek by any means, get it through your skul. You dont know what you are talking. You think all people are stupid like yourself?I do not feel any greeknes in my soul.First of all there are no Greeks in existance.Greece should be called Albania,as the majority of the people are Albanians,Vlahs,Roma,Turks and Slaves.Greece had 27 out of 57 Prime Ministers of Albanian ethnicity.A living proov the Greek president Papulias is of Albanian ethnicity,Karamanlis is a Turk whos ancestors came to Greece on a religious pretence, not on ethnicity.

Peter, your answer says it all.
Go read a book, get a proper education and stay away from flawed, revisionist, nationalist websites..

  • Peter

Boris, you should be ashamed of your self claiming you are a historian.I am not a historian, but I do know history a lot more then you. This is the reason that the Greek people are being poisoned. When they learn history such as your thinking, they become poisoned with lies. It is unfortunate,Greek historians cannot express the true history because they will be vanished from Greece.Take as example of Valianatos,Grossomanidou, the Athenian museum curator and,the Vergina discoverer what happened to him?You people are pathetic. You have earned the highest honour on fabrication and falsification of history. No one can claim this honour, but you!

  • Boris

As I said, your answers speak for themselves.
    Get an education..

Dear Peter and the other Fyromians you are truly a sad case for an expose of a fake ethnicity. You poor tragedy of a person who seeks an ethnic identity by fraudulent means. You and your lying kind are but the thieves of the Balkans a people of no past who have sadly no future. How can you tell us that you existed before 1944 when you never even had your own language when your intellectual leaders all studied their mother tongue in Bulgaria considered themselves Bulgars faught and died for their mother Bulgaria? All the people of the Balkans had their own culture, language and religion you Fyromians on the other hand had no language(considered a south western Bulgarian dialect)no independant church(only established in 1967)no ethnic identity as you were Macedono Bulgarians before 1944 and cultrually you share the same customs as the Bulgars. So please go buy a book not a stefov propaganda one and learn some history you poor sad tragic fools of the Balkans.Macedonia was is and always will be GREEK!!
FYROM was is and always will be a state of BULGARIA!

  • Paul Brams

    @ Truth Bearer

You really are a shame for the Greek people. What you wrote is completely nationalistic statement but before everything it is incorrect.
The region of Macedonia never belonged to Bulgaria except for a few months when it was given under the San Stefano agreement and a few years during the WW-2 when the Bulgarian tsar Boris colaborated with Hitler.
You could say it more belonged to Serbia where it was attached for a few decades under the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians.
I can’t believe you people hate your neighbors so much when they share the same religion and culture as you. The language is the only barrier and most of your ancestors were not speaking Greek either, remember that.
And at the end, how many times you need to be reminded that more nations speak similar languages but they feel diferent!

Boris,I take you on your word that you are a professor of history. If that is true,I feel for the students that are being tought a falsified, doctored history.Mr. here is the difference between you and me;You are educated in your country that writes history to their advantage. The Bulgarian history is opposing to your history and vise versa. My learned history was learned outside of Bulgaria, outside of Greece and outside of Macedonia. Therefore, my friend,I learned it in a neutral country that did not take sides. Therefore, my history is much, much more straight forward then yours!Mind you, I did have Greek and Macedonian teachers plus teachers of the country I was residing.Mr. you are not qualified to tell me who I am.Let me tell you this;I am Christian Orthodox Macedonian,no more no less.
