Serbia: Facebook Group of Serbian Nationalists

“Knife, Wire, Srebrenica!” (Nož, Žica, Srebrenica!) is one of the favorite slogans of Serbian nationalists; it alludes to the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.

A while ago, there appeared a Facebook group (SRP) with the same name and 1,045 members – as well as a counter-group (SRP, ENG), whose 10,584 members are appealing to Facebook administrators to close the NOŽ ŽICA SREBRENICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! group because it “glorifies the acts of genocide that took place in Srebrenica, where 8,000 men and boys were murdered”:

[…] Furthermore, this group propagates hatred to all muslims according to its description “za sve koje mrze Muslimane” which means “for all those who hate Muslims.” […]

Serbian blogger Nikola Knežević was angry and reacted strongly on his blog, linking to both Facebook groups. Among other things, he wrote (SRP):

[…] A normal person is ashamed of the thing that makes a fool proud. After everything… After the loathsome footage of the Scorpions liquidating Muslims, it is not clear to me how some young people can be imbued with so much hatred towards other people who are different from them… […]

The blogger has received over 270 comments to this post. Here are some of them:

Zazito:

As far as the ban's concerned… hmm, it is not a bad idea but I don't like any kind of censorship… tomorrow you will react the same way if someone creates a group advocating traditional values… I think it will be better to become a member of this group and explain to the young people that what they are doing is wrong…

Vracarac92:

Racism, homophobia and any kind of hatred mainly originate from not knowing of facts, as well as from a fear of the unknown things.

Piro001:

People are unsatisfied due to poverty and misfortune and uncertain future, and some fools abuse it…

srebrenica, safe haven,is it not true or true, that the leaders of srebrenica where told by ratko mladic to hand over the people responseble for the crimes comited on a vilage, where over 70 serbs where killed. the killers fled to there safe haven Srebrenica.the leaders refused to talk to mladic.thinking the peace keepers would keep them safe.i am sure that mladic keeped his word that he would punish the people responseble.i do think he went a littile bit overbord.

  • Luckily, the group has been closed now thanks to massive reporting and protesting against it. Well done :)

  • goldernpriest, long before Bosniaks killed 70 Chetniks in Kravice, more than 1000 Bosniak Muslim civilians had been slaughterd by Bosnian Serb Army around Srebrenica. So, according to your logic, you are trying to equalize deaths of 70 Serbs with the deaths of 1000 Muslims in 1992/3? Is that what you are trying to do?

“A little overbord[sic]”? – forget about ethics, I guess some of these people have little clue about mathematics.

OK, there’s a degree of truth in suggesting that racism, homophobia and hatred generally are linked to ignorance, but behind ignorance there so often lurks vested interest.

Why is it that ethnic groups gravitate to themselves?
Is this a natural function? I think so. Mixing of races does not work. Even when forced, ethnic populations form their own neighborhoods within the foreign community in which they live. Like peoples desire to be with their own. Muslims in central europe are a classic example., they refuse to be absorbed by the majority culture. No assimilation. What does this mean? Those indigenous peoples there before the influx, will eventually fight violently to maintain their status quo. The Muslim will be driven out!

    “Mixing of races doesn’t work”.

From the Tadic judgment Case IT-94-1-T

Para. 147. “… Similarly Radislav Vukic, President of the Municipal SDS Committee in Banja Luka and President of the Regional Board of the SDS, as well as an elected member of the SDS Main Board of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was also an extremist, presenting through the media his decision not to allow any non-Serb women to give birth at Banja Luka Hospital. He also asserted that all mixed marriage couples should be divorced or that all mixed marriages should be annulled and that children of mixed marriages “were good only for making soap.” The position expressed by these two prominent Serb leaders, once thought of as extreme, had, by 1992, become the predominant views of the SDS.”

Slobo, that’s what your views mean in practice. Terrible things happened in Prijedor and throughout Bosnia between 1992 and 1995. The recent opinion poll in Serbia found a majority of respondents still pretending that nothing had been done by them or in their name. Germans fought hard to overcome the heritage of the Nazis. Why do so many Serbs believe that they are a race apart that has no need or desire to share the common values of humanity?
