Morocco: Reflections of Eid

It's been quite awhile since we last looked into the Moroccan blogosphere…so it's about time! As the Eid al-Adha celebration has recently passed, bloggers are wishing each other well and sharing stories from the holiday.

The View From Fez reports that King Mohammed VI has pardoned 502 prisoners over the holiday. In detail:

His Majesty, King Mohammed VI, has pardoned 502 prisoners for the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice or Eid al-Adha, being celebrated this week. According to a Justice Ministry press release, total pardon was granted to 15 inmates over their remaining prison term or seclusion, reduction of imprisonment term or seclusion to 299, commutating of life imprisonment to time term to 3, total pardon over the prison term or its remaining time to 29.

A royal pardon was granted to 15 inmates over their remaining prison term, while a reduced prison term was granted to 299 inmates, said the Moroccan Justice Ministry in a statement.

So many of you have given your lives today.
On this holy day, this holy day of Aid.

Please know….

Your symbolism has not gone lost.
Your sacrifice has not gone forgotten

Including to those tender hearted.

  • At the 1st day of Eid, when all the Family gathered and started to eat, my sister said: “Can you Imagine we are having all of this, and in Gaza they don’t even have enough bread”.

    Every one kept silent, it’s like we don’t want to remember our people which we can’t help, it’s like we accept what is happening to them, I felt in hate and anger, 300 Million Arab can’t even save 1 and a half million of their brothers and sisters, this is the Eid for me, eat and sleep.

    Gaza, I apologize.

    Starvation in Gaza? Where are the pictures of starving children? All I see is children firing rockets and/or stones.

    Rest asure that the Hamas leaders will have their stomach full of mutton in celebration.

  • “All I see is children firing rockets and/or stones”

    for real you call that a ROKCETS?!! they don’t even have an engine!!!! viva Palestinian, the 1st Arab rocket inventor, how funny to put that rockets side by side with stone throwers.

    And All I see is Million of Citizens being punished for individuals acts, I wonder If the world should put Israel including her Citizens under that kind of siege since the Government is selected by the people for her massive rockets and cluster bombs where she used Against Lebanese civilians.

    FIGHTING an Occupation is a Human Right.

  • Wow. Just wow. I cannot believe that you would disregard the children of Gaza entirely as you have. Forget the second comment entirely – I don’t care about the politicians – but to talk about ANY children that way is disgusting.

  • Alloush – your post was deeply moving and your sister’s compassion touched me as well.

    Redouane – it is not just your eyes that must open. Also your heart.

    @Alloush,
    You are either a con man or a person who wants to beleive what he wants to beleive. I just wanted to refute your idea of starvation. Do not use words like that if you know they are not true. I do not deny the “siege” but I do refute the idea that children are starving in Gaza. Do you see the palestinian TV? I do. This media should at least show how these children are starving, right!!! But nothing, because they do not have nothing to show for it. Unless they starve children on purpose to use it to sway public opinion. This is all to common among those who do not think about words they utter. Just because there is a siege, does not mean there is starvation. If you feel guilty about eating roasted lamb on the Aid, that’s OK. There is no need to bring the Gaza siege in here. You should probably refrain from eating lamb than. Furthermore You should also feel guilty about those Moroccan families whose whole diet is bread and tea. You should take a sip of mint tea and the indigestion will go away. You feel better the next day.

    @Sandy,
    It is people like Alloush who speak with their heart instead of their heads (brain). Who in the world is supporting the siege of Gaza? Not me. I just do not want to hear claims that are false.

    Sorry, I had my eyes open for a long time ever since I emigrated to the West. As far as opening the heart, sorry to disapoint you again, I prefer to open the mind and brain, because I have some control on emotional outbursts that generate from the “heart”. I do not stand for claims are ridiculously false and exagerated. Siege is a siege, but starvation Please… I can send you links that make you wonder, but it will make no difference because people are going to beleieve what they want to beleive or what they want YOU to beleive. I will have none of this…

    @Jillian,
    What did I say about the Gaza’s children that made it so disgusting? The idea that they throw stones and fight the israeli soldiers by sending Quasam rockets!!! It was an analogy to stop to think about the real factors behind the sad situation in Gaza. I was just refuting the idea that the children of Gaza have nothing to eat or are deprived of things because of the bad israeli soldiers and the unwilling of all Arabs to do anything about it. That’s easy evasive talk..

    What I see from the Palestinian TV station from Gaza is the call of jihad and death to the zionist entity. The chaos in Gaza is always blamed on Israel, yet the West Bank is doing well economically and socially. The adults of Gaza’s Hamas send the children on the streets to do their ridiculous “fighting” as if it is going to have any effect. What sort of fighting is this? Perhaps you feel so disgusted because these words come from a Moroccan and this moroccan does not seem to follow the herd mentality of his compatriots. If this is the case then I can understand your comment. I am just not falling to false claims and evasive easy talk.

  • The fact that it comes from a Moroccan?! Please. It’s the fact that you have such disregard for children. I don’t care if they ARE fighting and they ARE wrong…they’re children and they don’t deserve punishment for the mistakes of the previous generation.

  • @ Redouane
    ——————–
    “You are either a con man or a person who wants to beleive what he wants to beleive”.

    – You should tell that to your self.

  • Redouane

    Go tell that to the Hamas leaders and their cronies. Punishment for the mistakes of previous generation? What are you talking about? This is a mistake of the present adult generation and their misguided political leaders and religious thugs, not previous ones.
