Egypt: Online Journalism in the Arab World

Lebanese journalist Bassam Twaini presented a talk entitled The State of Online Journalism in the Arab World, at a conference in Cairo, Egypt, reports Saudi blogger Yaser Al Ghaslan [Ar], who was present at the event.

    And to be honest with you, I find it ironic that as an Arab Muslim living in this part of the world that I have to work for a Jewish newspaper or for the international media in order to be able to practice any kind of real journalism.

    On the technical side, the conflict coincided with Al Jazeera introducing several innovative online initiatives, including a citizen journalism portal that encouraged viewers to submit photos and eyewitness accounts.
