Armenia: World AIDS Day & the Armenicum Fiasco

Categories: Central Asia & Caucasus, Armenia, Health, LGBTQ+

Armenia: Higher Education & Sciences prepares its readers for the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day and highlights the situation with HIV infection in the country [1]. The blog also notes that this year marks the 10th anniversary of Armenicum, a locally produced drug which the authorities initially announced could cure AIDS. Controversially, the drug has not even been proven to relieve symptoms in clinical trials and the blog comments on a recent article that says not only is it being paid for by the tax-payer, but also costs three times more than proven anti-retroviral treatments.
