India: Terror attacks continue in Mumbai

In what appears to be a surreal sense of reality, television channels are airing footage from the various places in Southern Mumbai that are being attacked. Ultrabrown writes –

A large-scale S. Bombay terrorist attack is going on right now using automatic weapons, hand grenades and possibly a taxi bomb. Commandos and military are supposedly being rushed in. Gunfire is still being heard on live TV.

And the logistics of living in a country which constantly finds itself under terrorist attacks. Meandering thoughts… writes

A friend called from Mumbai to find out if I'm fine and mentioned that he's actually made groups in his phone's contact list – one for each metro city of the country. Makes it easier for him to react and find out about family and friends every time a blast happens.

I'm beginning to realise he has a point.

Worryingly, there already is a sense of conflicting information from various sources. While some mainstream media sources suggest that the situation is under control, others give the impression that there maybe a hostage situation developing in some of the hotels, especially with foreign nationals being held by the terrorists.

Tweets from Mumbai were one of the first to break the news. Manic Scribe writes.

A bunch of terrorist are in the midst of a co-ordinated attack on Mumbai, India. The reports first started trickling in on Twitter, of all places, as I follow a few people who live in Mumbai. They have actually heard the explosions.

India Retold writes

They are still there, firing and waiting to take the police on. The lobby of Oberoi Hotel has been set on fire. A petrol pump in Colaba has just been blown up, as this is being typed. Dadar station has been evacuated. An explosive laden taxi has been blown up in Ville Parle. Two terrorists have entered GT Hospital. They are exchanging fire with police near Metro cinema. Some terrorists have even commandeered a police jeep and are moving around in it firing indiscriminately. Incidents of blasts/ firing/lobbying of hand grenade have been reported from at least nine places. And the number is only increasing even at this hour past midnight. Live firing can still be heard on TV. It is 12:31 AM.

As the minutes go by, more reactions emerge from the blogosphere. An angry post at Doing Something For My Country!!

Makes me wonder what will make our so called LEADERS to stand up and notice of whats happened and again happening… They of course do not realise the importance of lives of INDIANS, otherwise some concrete action might have taken place… Calling the INDIAN POLITICIALS WEKELINGS AND COWARDS would be the understatement of the century…

The attacks came quite late in the night on a weekday. Chances are that the city will take a few days before things return to normal. (Once was) Mumbaiwallah writes

It's 00.17 on 27 November as I write. CNN on Twitter tells me that the city is under seige again. A grenade apparently went off at CST and shooting was reported in Colaba. NDTV.com live tv shows that the Oberoi lobby is on fire and an ‘encounter’ is on at the Taj and Trident Hotel.

Trains on the central line have been stopped until further notice. 20 people have been reported dead at this time.

Amira: To be fair, Kactuz is very much correct. Why don’t you take a hard look at your own doctrines. And “a voice like yours makes absolute sense as it puts into perspective how much evilness and hate is really out there” lets not let the pot call the kettle black…

Mahajon, Amira Al Hussaini, and similar parties,

Do not try to justify act of terrorists by citing examples and blaming some of the Hindu organizations as legitimate terrorist outfits.. it seems like all the acts of terrorism in India has softened the definitions of terrorist outfits.. Look back into last 1400 yrs of history.. could you cite a single example that can substantiate the claimed so called “Religion of Peace”..

India’s cong govt is essentially a bunch of eunuchs controlled by a foreign born woman.. most of the terrorist attacks have taken place under congress govt.. power hungry, minority sucker.. which country on the earth considers 15 crore as a minority..

it is legacy of self proclaimed “father of nation”..

    Amira,
I’m getting tired of hearing the whole ‘True Muslims condemn violence’ spiel. Every heard this one “Every muslim may not be a terrorist but every terrorist is a muslim”? Who would you have the non-muslims hold accountable?

Rise and realize! These manic extremist Terrorist, have no specific religion or a soecific country. These are ghastly fear mongers that feed on blood and pus. “Hatred” is their religion and “Hell” is their country. In this most crucial moment, let us unite, not just bring the pressure on the government but let us unite from all arround the world to help shoot these strat dogs at the very sight!

    Hellllllllllo Mumbai

Sath Rakhsnay Khal Nigranay , Ardh Satya , Khaki ,

These police officers who worked hard esp Ashok Kamte I know his work one of those honest and khaki like officers
Is brutally killed by these scavangers.
All the police force of Maharashtra should take revenge of these officers killing by brutally half killing terrorists. I hope this police force which is 96 Kuli Maratha now burn up remember Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj than this Gandu Chief Minister / Home Minister Shivraj Patil who is Pakistan’s agent. Even though these folks knew such attacks were going to happen they did not take action.

They never felt increasing Police force. InMumbai there are only 12000 police force because This corrupt government cannot afford it. Out of these 12000 90% came by bribing mpsc examiners (there is proof Karnik’s case, it is consistently kept behind media by bribing media itself) or they come by telling MLA’s relation. They come not to protect but get bribe. There are rate charts available to get important post. eg. Getting a post for mere Traffic Police at particular location costs about Rs.500,000 and this is in Taluka place, Imagine city like Mumbai what will hppen. Now tell me if these folks are busy getting under the table when they will get time to find out AK-47s in coming or RDX in coming.

I am not blaming at all to them because in last few years this is the trend set by politicians. There is cut directly goes in Minister’s pocket. There are stories how everyday 15 lakhs were passing to one of the place in Maharshtra in that minister’s pocket. Now tell me how can you expect recruting more police it is dangerous for their business.

Anyways there is no hope for common man.
I am not even considering this religous war

We should hand over the guns to these politicians and tell them to go and rescue the people. Were are politicians like raj thackery who are working for the benefit of maharashtrians? They cant see now that mumbai is in problem, If they really want to work for the maharashtrians this is the time for them to show their power. Go and rescue the ppl.

  • The terrorist attack on Mumbai is really painful, frustrating and also disgusting. This attack ‘proves’ everybody that we are still vulnerable to such attacks in future. Despite a series of attacks throughout the length and breadth of our country India, the Home Ministry and Intelligence Agency was unable to get the input on the disaster awaiting to happen in Mumbai.

It’s very frustrating to see people like Raj Thackerey invoking hatred and fear amongst the fellow Indian citizens (read north Indians). People like him are keen to divide India. He should have focussed more on the consequences of the history of attacks faced by Mumbai till date. He should campaign against such terrorist instead of campaigning against fellow Indians. Where is he now? Will he come forward and create an organisation targeting terrorists? Or he still feel North Indians are bigger threat to Maharashtra than the terrorists who are really harming the integrity and progress of the state Maharashtra and also the nation as a whole.

Honorable Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh is working on a new ‘100 Day’ action plan against the terrorist activities in our country. But what about the next 100 hours? We people are now becoming more and more prone to such activities and its high time that our government start acting instead of just speaking.

We the younger generation must come forward and save the country by creating unity amongst ourselves. I think its high time we start expressing our views about how we feel about the lots of tragic activities happening in our country as it is ultimately us the younger generation that would be living in the future India, in a future time when the world will witness many such incidents ranging from global warming to building our country to terrorism. It will ultimately be us who will live in such conditions and not the generation who have lived their lives in a pre dominently peaceful world.

It’s really hard to swallow such dangerously violent situation. We youngsters feel very insecure these days. It’s about time some serious action is taken before we all crumble to these stupid cowards who don’t know the ABCD of life.
